Bitumen Emulsion HFRS-2

Bitumen Emulsion HFRS-2

Bitumen Emulsion HFRS-2 is Normally using for penetration into aggregates is needed too fast to giving better coating and durability. This grade of Emulsion Bitumen is supplying by Asia Bitumen factory according to the clients need.

Description

What is Bitumen Emulsion HFRS-2
HFRS-2 is a type of anionic bitumen emulsion.
The designation stands for High‑Float Rapid‑Setting Grade 2.
As an emulsion, it consists of fine droplets of bitumen dispersed in water with an emulsifying agent allowing bitumen to be applied cold and enabling easier, safer handling compared to hot bitumen.

Properties & Technical Specs
Based on manufacturer datasheets:

Property / TestTypical Range / Result
Viscosity (Saybolt Furol at 25 °C)20 – 100 SFS
Storage stability (24 h)≤ 1% separation
Demulsibility (8% dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate)≥ 60%
Sieve test (fines)≤ 0.1% retained on 0.075 mm sieve
Residue by distillation≥ 63%
Penetration of residue (25 °C)100 – 200 (0.1 mm)
Ductility of residue (25 °C)≥ 40 cm (5 cm/min)
Float of residue (at 60 °C)≥ 1200 s

Important additional traits:
The high‑float characteristic helps maintain a stable film coating that resists cracking or washing off, even under weather extremes (heat, rain).
Rapid‑setting means the emulsion breaks (i.e. water separates, bitumen binds) quickly after application enabling faster return to traffic and reducing downtime.
Because it is water based (emulsion), it can be applied cold no need to heat bitumen which makes handling safer and reduces energy consumption.

Applications and Uses
HFRS-2 is widely used in road construction and maintenance especially where quick setting and durability are valued.

Common uses:
Chip seal surface treatments sealing and waterproofing pavements (especially low to moderate traffic roads).

Prime coats for unpaved or base roads before applying further layers.

Maintenance, resealing, and crack sealing extending life of existing road surfaces, sealing cracks, preventing further wear.

Pavement works with dusty or aged aggregates HFRS-2 bonds well even with less‑than‑ideal aggregates.

Sometimes used for waterproofing on concrete or metal surfaces (depending on formulation) though road surfacing remains the primary use.

Advantages
Fast setting reduces project time roads can reopen sooner.

High float & good film retention ensures a durable, weather resistant coating that stands up to heat, rain, wear.

Cold application safer to store/handle; no heating required energy efficient and more environmentally friendly than hot applied bitumen.

Good compatibility with aggregates works even with dusty or less ideal aggregates, useful in maintenance or rural road contexts where ideal aggregate may be lacking.

Cost effectiveness and convenience easier logistics (drums, tankers), less heating, less downtime.

Considerations and Limitations
Because it’s an anionic emulsion, compatibility with aggregate type matters some aggregates (especially those that are very negatively charged) may repel anionic bitumen particles, reducing adhesion.

Proper preparation of the surface aggregate (cleanliness, dryness within tolerance) is essential to ensure good bonding and performance.
As with all bitumen-based products, correct handling, storage, and safety measures are important to avoid spills, contamination, or environmental issues.
