Description
Bitumen VG 10 is a viscosity-graded paving bitumen used mainly in cold climates and low temperature road construction. .
What is VG 10?
VG-10 means the bitumen has a viscosity of about 800–1200 Poise at 60°C. It is the softest grade in the viscosity-graded series (VG 10, VG 20, VG 30, VG 40).
Properties
- Lower viscosity → flows easily at low temperatures
- Good workability for spray applications
- Less prone to cracking in colder regions
- Penetration value roughly equivalent to 80/100 Pen Grade
Common Uses
- Surface dressing
- Cold climate road construction
- Emulsions manufacturing
- Fog sealing and prime coats
- Thin bituminous layers
Comparison to other VG grades
| Grade | Hardness | Typical Use |
|---|
| VG 10 | Soft | Cold regions, spray works |
| VG 20 | Medium | Moderate climate roads |
| VG 30 | Standard | High-traffic roads (most common) |
| VG 40 | Hard | Very heavy traffic & high temperature |
